The DO's and DON'T'S of Teen Skin Care

Help is here! If you’re struggling with stubborn acne or problem skin, there are ways to rapidly improve skin health in teens. Try some or all of these tips to get on your way to clean, clear skin.

DO ✅✅✅

1. Cleanse morning and evening, double cleansing every time

2. Wear moisturizer - even if you are oily, you still need it.

3. Wear SPF, even during the winter or if you are predominantly indoors -

screentime causes UV damage too!

4. Wash your makeup brushes, sheets, and pillowcases often to prevent bacteria and oil build-up.

5. Watch what you're eating/drinking; increase water intake and reduce sugar.

6. Spot treat problem areas with a serum.

7. Look for noncomedogenic products to prevent clogged pores.

8. Book a facial with an experienced teen skin/extractions specialist.

DON'T 🚫🚫🚫

1. Pick your pimples - fingernails carry bacteria between pimples, causing them to spread. Picking/excessive squeezing can also damage delicate facial skin.

2. Sleep in your make-up.

3. Overuse exfoliants (1x/week is enough).

4. Consume excess sugar, caffeine, or alcohol.

5. Settle for a cabinet-full of bad skin care because it is cheap. Invest in 1-2

products supported by legitimate studies.

6. Follow fads. These products may be effective, or they may make things much worse. Again, look for products that have stood the test of time and are supported by scientific research.

7. Share makeup/makeup brushes with your besties - your skin bacteria can get seriously out of whack!
